Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ganatra

Muhammad Ashraf Ganatra is Professor of Plastic Surgery at Dow Medical College, Karachi which is affiliated with Dow University of Medical Sciences, Karachi, Pakistan. He is founding life member and present (2012-2014) President of the august body of Plastic Surgeons of Pakistan by the name of “Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons” (PAPS). He is Project Director of Smile Train, a non-governmental organization of USA involved in helping patients of cleft lip and cleft palate in the world. He is supervisor and examiner of College of Physician and Surgeons of Pakistan. (CPSP). He is first Memon Plastic Surgeon and first Professor of Okhai Memon community. He is life member of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Society of Surgeons of Pakistan (SOSP) & Memon Professional Forum (MPF).

Having been graduated in the year 1983 from Dow Medical College, Karachi he joined the Deptt.of Plastic Surgery at Civil hospital, Karachi under the dynamic leadership of Prof.K.M.Durrani, who was the first Plastic Surgeon of Pakistan. Dr.Ganatra was taught, trained, groomed and mentored by Prof.Durrani into a finest Plastic Surgeon. He received his MS (Plast. Surg.) degree from University of Karachi in 1992.He visited United Kingdom, Malaysia and Egypt for further refinements in various aspects of Plastic Surgery

Dr.Ganatra is actively involved in the teaching and practice of Plastic Surgery. As professor at DMC, he has 4 trainees under him. He has 23 scientific papers to his credit published in journals recognized by PMDC (Pakistan Medical& Dental Council) and HEC (Higher Education Commission). He had presented at various national and international medical conferences. He is actively involved in research. His main interest is “amniotic membrane in Burns and Skin substitutes.

He is actively involved In private Practice at his clinic at Taj Medical Complex. His main interest is Cleft surgery for which he has attended various training workshops held in Thialnd, Taiwan and Brazil. He is actively involved in holding cleft camps/missions in rural Sindh. His other interests are Hypospadias surgery, post burn contractures, Hair Transplant surgery, Liposuction and facial rejuvenation.
